The results highlight both significant progress and persistent communication challenges.<\/p>\r\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Awareness of EU-Funded Projects<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li><strong>40%<\/strong>\u00a0of respondents are aware of EU-funded projects in their region.<\/li>\r\n<li>Among them,\u00a0<strong>79%<\/strong>\u00a0believe these initiatives have positively improved living conditions.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>57%<\/strong>\u00a0say such projects strengthened their sense of European identity.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. Recognition of Funds and Programmes<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li><strong>Two in three Europeans<\/strong>\u00a0recognise at least one fund: ERDF, Cohesion Fund, ESF+, Interreg, or the Just Transition Fund.<\/li>\r\n<li>Despite its long history,\u00a0<strong>Interreg remains less recognised<\/strong>\u00a0than Erasmus.<\/li>\r\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>Just Transition Fund<\/strong>, created in 2021, now enjoys\u00a0<strong>higher recognition<\/strong>\u00a0than Interreg.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Perceptions of Interregional and Transnational Cooperation<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<p>While the\u00a0<strong>EGTC (European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation)<\/strong>\u00a0is relatively well known:<\/p>\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li><strong>More than 50%<\/strong>\u00a0of citizens are unaware that the EU supports cooperation between regions and countries.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>Possible reasons include:<\/p>\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>projects presented as \u201ccooperative\u201d but functioning as\u00a0<strong>parallel mirror initiatives<\/strong>,<\/li>\r\n<li>communication materials not emphasising the\u00a0<em>cooperation dimension<\/em>,<\/li>\r\n<li>weak understanding of the\u00a0<strong>Interreg brand<\/strong>.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4. Direct Citizen Benefits<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li><strong>17%<\/strong>\u00a0of respondents say they have personally benefited from a project funded by the ERDF or Cohesion Fund.<\/li>\r\n<li>In some Member States, this reaches\u00a0<strong>up to 50%<\/strong>.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\r\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Citizens\u2019 Priorities for Future EU Investments<\/strong><\/h1>\r\n<p>Across the EU, citizens prioritise funding for:<\/p>\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li><strong>Health and education<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 49%<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Environmental protection, water management &amp; climate action<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 38%<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Job creation and access to employment<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 31%<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Housing and energy efficiency<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 27%<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\r\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Views on the Targeting of Cohesion Policy<\/strong><\/h1>\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li><strong>64%<\/strong>\u00a0believe Cohesion Policy should support\u00a0<strong>all regions<\/strong>\u00a0of the EU.<\/li>\r\n<li>Additional emphasis is requested for:\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>high-unemployment regions (63%)<\/li>\r\n<li>deprived urban areas (51%)<\/li>\r\n<li>remote rural and mountainous regions (50%)<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\r\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Conclusions and Key Messages<\/strong><\/h1>\r\n<p>The survey demonstrates:<\/p>\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>progress in public understanding of Cohesion Policy,<\/li>\r\n<li>but also major communication gaps \u2014 especially regarding\u00a0<strong>Interreg<\/strong>\u00a0and cooperation instruments.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><strong>Priorities moving forward:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>clearer explanation of\u00a0<em>why cooperation matters<\/em>,<\/li>\r\n<li>strengthening the\u00a0<strong>Interreg brand<\/strong>,<\/li>\r\n<li>highlighting tangible, citizen-visible results.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>The findings offer essential insights for future communication strategies and policymaking in a period of increased geopolitical, social, and climate challenges.<\/p>\r\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\r\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Europeans Expect from the EU Budget 2028\u201334<\/strong><\/h1>\r\n<p>A parallel 2025 survey outlines clear public expectations. Citizens want an EU budget that:<\/p>\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>strengthens cohesion and guarantees solidarity,<\/li>\r\n<li>reduces inequalities and protects the most vulnerable,<\/li>\r\n<li>promotes sustainability, biodiversity and climate action,<\/li>\r\n<li>supports competitiveness while respecting regional needs,<\/li>\r\n<li>allows rapid response to crises and new opportunities,<\/li>\r\n<li>enhances Europe\u2019s defence capabilities,<\/li>\r\n<li>ensures fair migration &amp; integration policies,<\/li>\r\n<li>improves transparency, accountability and communication,<\/li>\r\n<li>ensures effectiveness, efficiency and measurable results.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<p>Together, these surveys provide a roadmap for shaping both the future of Cohesion Policy and the next EU budgetary cycle. They highlight what citizens value, expect, and demand from European action in an era of transformation.
